If one person in 10,000 learns from this post it will be worth it. Let me preface by saying I have earned my living from the Internet since 1997. First online in 1993 with Netcom. I still have their 3.5 version 1 install floppy disk. A browser called Mosaic came with it and strange tools for ftp searches (Archie) you probably never heard of since they died a long time ago. It was so spinetingling to hear my 14.4 modem beep, shrill and spout white swishing noise before it went away and I knew it had connected. Downloading from a university in Europe a few seconds later was the biggest rush ever.
For the next 4 years I spent so much time trying to figure out a way to make money on the net. I bought the book by the lawyers in AZ that spoke about their own windfall in the green card lottery emails and posts. He responded to a couple of my emails and that really encouraged me. They proved that money was possible. A lot of money.
Well, what year was that? around late 94 I believe. I continued to search. I knew people were doing it I just did not know the best way. Around 1997 I started getting it. I stumbled into several new ideas and from there it took off. I’m not here to BS you. You can believe the following or not. I don’t care. I saw it. I know it’s true because I did it. I have seen days where $15,000 came in, minus costs of $10,000 for a $5,000 net. I have seen days where $2,000 came in with a cost of $650 for a $1300+ net. I have seen days where $7500 has come in with a cost of $1900 for a $5500 net. Those were real numbers from real markets. I guarantee you nothing compares to seeing your balance increase by $3,000 a day. Steady? no. Those were spurts. Some lasted a few months some for 6-7 months and died a slow death. BUT they did occur. No BS.
When I started, other business partners in different businesses I was involved with said I was crazy to give up those businesses to strike out on the net. Let me tell you something, there is nothing harder to do in this world than to ignore advice from well meaning people. You developed relationships with them over the years and then one day for whatever reason they state their opinions about your future plans. They meant well but they did not have experience.
Let me ask you a question. If you want to build a house by yourself would you take advice from a candle maker? Think about it then continue on.
The candle maker means well but has no experience building a house by hand. If I wanted to learn how to make candles I would apprentice up with him. The problem is I want to build houses. And all around me I am surrounded by candlestick makers and yarn spinners. All offering advice on building houses.
If you learn 2 things from this post my time writing this will be worth it. The 2nd thing you must learn is IF YOU WANT TO BUILD HOUSES THEN ONLY LISTEN TO PEOPLE THAT HAVE BUILT THEM.
The first thing you must learn is not to put all your eggs in one basket. This is the topic that spurred me to write this. See, (I won’t get into specifics because it’s irrelevant) a few years back I made a few technical errors, no biggie. It’s not like I killed a policeman or murdered 100,000 inhabitants of a country, there were a few minor technical errors made by myself in one market. I don’t even call them errors rather oversights. Well fast forward 3 years and those very minor oversights came back to haunt Little Laurie. Like I said no one was hurt, no laws were broken, no one lost money but a few minor technical oversights on page 1248 of the operating manual were overlooked. No biggie right? I thought so too. Until my engines stopped working at 36,000 feet.
See, there are companies that have the ability to send a broadcast to your plane that instantly shuts down your engines while you are flying over the Atlantic. No names will be named here. Use your imagination. There’s 10,000 plus possibilities. The point is one minute you are on auto-pilot relaxing in your pilot seat all things purring like a kitten. Then the next moment all four engines stop. You spill the coffee all over yourself. You look at all the instruments trying to figure out what is wrong. You are starting to lose altitude. WTF?? why did all 4 engines quit at once?? You have fuel, you have hydraulics, you have APU power but no engines. WTF?????
Then you hear a beep on your ACARS. Basically a teletype /fax machine for pilots. The company that you “lease” the engines from discovered a minor technical issue from 3 years back. Oops, no good. Their automated system kneejerks a reaction and a command goes out. Turn off all engines in that plane until minor issue is resolved. The problem is the issue will take 2 months to resolve with their bureaucratic process but you have about 20 minutes before the water below. How can any company get so powerful they can cut engines without warning, anytime, anywhere by automated non-human involved scripts?
Does it matter you are over the ocean when the bot decision is administered? No. Does it matter you have 400 people on board? No. Does it matter the minor issue is 3 years old? No. Does it matter no one was harmed. No. Does it matter you gave that company over $300,000? No. Engines are able to be shut off without warning no matter if you are safely on the ground or 3,000 miles from land. Makes no difference to the scripts. No human is involved just a binary script.
Take it from me, it’s not a pretty experience. Again, no names will be used. It could happen with any company you depend on too much. Fortunately Little Laurie took advanced survival courses, took advanced gliding lessons, took advanced water landing lessons and took liferafts and provisions for 90 days. What about the ones that were not so prepared? What happened to them? Are they front page news or are they on the bottom of the ocean with no mention? Yah, the airplane is an allegory but it is a very close allegory.
You never see the ones that crash in the middle of the Atlantic. For all intents and purposes they never existed. It’s rather scary knowing your engines can be shut off at any time, anyplace without even 1 second of notice.
So to play the game correctly learn this. Never depend on one company (no matter their reputation) to power all four of your engines. Depend on 4 different companies to each power an engine. If one company has a problem and shuts their engine down you still are flying on three until you find a place to land.
Or, in other words, never place all your eggs in one basket.
Also remember no matter how bad it looks, no matter the disasters you go through, no matter the idiots you must partake of, no matter the idiotic rules buried on page 1289, no matter the dark clouds gathering, all of it is temporary. It won’t last. It may seem like it will last at the present moment but rest assure they are clouds floating by. After a few moments the thunderstorms pass and the cirrus clouds take their place. What you see and experience right now is temporary. It will change. For the good or for the worse. The decision which way it goes is yours and yours only.

You know the one thing I miss the most when I travel? Harley-Davidsons. Obviously I cannot tuck a Lowrider in my back pocket and take it on the plane with me. Wherever I travel my ears always are listening for that low pulsating rumble to come out of the distance. They are unmistakable. My heart belongs on a Harley. I remember once I was in Italy in Assisi. The city is on a hill so you could look out over miles and miles of farmland. I was out on the hotel’s veranda overlooking the valley. It was about 9pm. Then out of the distance I picked it up. First faint, then growing louder with each second. A familiar loping. In a country populated by Vespas and mopeds here was coming an honest to goodness piece of American metal. I closed my eyes and listened as the rider would accelerate through the gears then back off for a curve, then accelerate again. It was music to my ears.
Ever rode on a Harley at night in Italy? Press the play button button below, put your gloves and helmet on, kick her into first gear and let your imagination run wild. This MP3 just melts me. Turn your speakers up full blast and turn your imagination up full blast.
I want you to try an experiment now.
Close your eyes, imagine you are listening to Melissa (press the play button above) in your earphones. It’s 2:37am. Somewhere in the middle of Texas on a long 2 lane deserted highway. The steady loping thunder sound reverberates in your ears in the background of Greg Allman’s voice. The engine heat comes up enough to warm your legs and thighs. Your steed settles into a gallop at 85 MPH. Next stop Marquez, Texas in 68 miles. Population 233 souls. ETA 48 minutes. Between here and Marquis all you see is miles and miles of pitch black and a carpet of stars thrown across the sky aka The Milky Way. Back in Houston you can’t see the milky way at night. Out here even the air smells sweet and the night sky is something only seen in science fiction movies. You decide to bump it up to 95 MPH. You are all alone, no one is on the road this late. New ETA 43 minutes to travel 68 miles. Mile after mile disappears while your mind is far away. It’s like magic. 5 minutes pass like 10 seconds. You shake your head and 15 miles have gone by while you were somewhere else. The loping engine beats keep gently pounding you. The deep pulsating thunder of the exhaust reverberates all around you. You put your boots back up on the highway pegs and begin to merge into this mechanical beast. After a while you become one not knowing where you end and the beast begins.
Could you ride a motorcycle at 100+ mph in pitch blackness all by yourself at 2am out in the middle of nowhere? Your answer to that reveals your belief system. You see, your subconscious beliefs will determine to a large degree what you can or cannot do. If you believe you’ll kill yourself or hit a deer then those images will hold you back regardless if they are true or not. If your image is one of a free spirit that loves the wind in your hair and loping mechanical thunder in your ears then that image will propel you to be a midnite rider. Did you know half your beliefs are formed by the time you are 5 years old? I rode on my first motorcycle when I was 5 and they’ve been in my blood since. My next door neighbor drove a red 1965 Honda Dream 305. One ride on that and it was all over. Motorcycles have infected me since.
You see, your subconscious mind holds many core beliefs about the world and about you. Whether they are true or not makes no difference. They are core beliefs that your subconscious mind uses to keep a reference on the world. It uses those core beliefs as a survival mechanism. Don’t touch fire, don’t drink acid, don’t fly in a thunderstorm, don’t stick your finger in an electrical socket. Those are very deeply held subconscious core beliefs that safeguard you from danger. Outer core subconscious beliefs such as the cost of corn is going up are easier to change. Your subconscious will not balk too much at those outer core beliefs. BUT challenge an inner core belief and WATCH OUT!! Your subconscious likes order and predictability. Try and change an inner core subconscious belief and you are in for a catfight. A big one! Your inner core beliefs is how your subconscious sees the world. Upset one of those core beliefs and Houston, we have a problem.
Imagine you walked into a room. A woman in that room began to float off the floor and stay suspended 5 feet off the floor. That image would short circuit your subconscious mind. Because of the gravity belief and all things are supposed to walk on the ground. You are watching a woman stand motionless in the air, 5 feet off the ground without any support whatsover and your subconscious is flipping out. The picture is not right. Long cherished beliefs are being heavily challenged. Your subconscious does not like long cherished beliefs to be challenged. It will ask your conscious mind to check again the woman, surely she is being held up by wires. You report no she’s not. Nothing is supporting her. She is floating and turning somersaults in midair. Your subconscious screams again to check for mirrors, invisible wires, anything!! People do not just float in midair your subconscious mind says. Check again to be sure! I checked again and yes she is floating!! At this point you would probably run screaming from the room from shock. One of the biggest core beliefs you have is being challenged. Your subconscious mind freaks out and you run jabbering from the room like a lunatic. All because your subconscious mind’s inner core belief systems was coming up against something opposite of it’s belief. Your subconscious mind will do ANYTHING to hold onto it’s most cherished inner core beliefs. It has taken decades to build it and NOTHING BUT NOTHING is going to alter your subconscious minds view of the world.
The beliefs you hold right now in your subconscious mind allow you to see the world a certain way. If there was a way you could instantly change your inner core subconscious beliefs like you instantly change radio stations then you would experience a different world instantly. The challenge arises how to change your inner core subconscious beliefs. Your subconscious mind will kick and scream anytime an inner core belief is attempted to be changed. It uses those for your survival and will not change them without a fight. It takes incredible effort to change those inner core beliefs. And those inner core beliefs about how the world should appear also extend to how your subconscious feels you should appear to the world. Whether that appearance is one of poverty or failure or success. Whatever your inner core subconscious belief is about yourself is what your subconscious mind will attempt to keep. So if you have an inner core subconscious picture of yourself as always failing in business then no matter the opportunities presented to you one by one all the opportunities will fail sooner or later to keep that inner core image intact.
Even if you buy the most surefire business in the world something will pop up sooner or later to take it all away. Success does not comply with your subconscious mind’s inner core belief of failure. Success goes against that inner core belief and the subconscious mind cannot have that. It must see failure in the exterior world to keep the inner core beliefs in check.
If You Think You Can’t
OR
If You Think You Can
You’re Right!
You can buy all the businesses in the world and all the books and all the tools and all the seminars but nothing will change for you until you change your inner core subconscious beliefs. Once you have the inner core subconscious belief of success your subconscious mind HAS TO MAKE SURE YOUR EXTERIOR WORLD MATCHES YOUR INNER CORE BELIEFS OF SUCCESS.
Yes, Laurie, thats all well and good but how do I change my inner core subconscious beliefs I hear you say. The inner core beliefs that practically refuse to be changed. The inner core subconscious beliefs I’ve had since I was knee high to my dad. Yes, that is the question..how do you change them. I want you to go back above to my experiment. Take another look at that experiment. Do you know why I did that experiment for you? I did it because your subconscious mind deals in images and your conscious mind deals in thoughts.
Let me ask you this. If your subconscious mind deals in images and if you want to change your inner core subconscious beliefs what would be the right way to go about changing them? That’s right..you change your inner core subconscious beliefs by concentrating on images. Close your eyes and imagine you are shooting basketball hoops from the free throw line. Practice throwing the hoops over and over and over in your mind. See yourself doing it so vividly you cannot tell the difference between your inner image and the real world. Like a dream except you are having the dream while awake. A waking lucid dream. That image you see of yourself practicing hoops will get the same if not better results as if you practiced on a real physical court.
This is how you program (re-program) your subconscious mind. By visualizing images. Visualizing is too weak a word for the process but I am at a loss for words for it using the available english language. The closest I can come using english is to say you close your eyes and enter a dream while wide awake. The dream becomes so real for a few moments you see yourself accomplishing the thing you need to accomplish. Rest assured you will be in great company with the likes of Tesla, Ford, Mozart and the Wright Brothers. How many times did the Wright Brothers see themselves flying in their mind. How many times was an image of themselves flying played over and over and over again on the screen of Wilbur and Orvilles mind? 100 times? 1,000 times? 100,000 times? If there was just one time in history I could choose to go back to it would be the morning of December 17th 1903 in Kitty Hawk, North Carolina. A dream pursued for thousands of years was about to come true.
